The City Librarian is a key executive-level management position responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and administration of the City’s Library Department. Reporting under the general direction of the Deputy City Manager, the City Librarian plans, organizes, and oversees all library operations, including strategic planning, reference services, collection development and maintenance, circulation, technical services, youth and adult programming, literacy initiatives, and community engagement. The City of Calabasas is seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking leader who combines deep professional knowledge of library science with strong executive management capabilities to serve as the City Librarian. The ideal candidate is passionate about public service, committed to equity of access, and skilled in guiding organizations through innovation and change. This role requires proven experience leading diverse teams in a public library or comparable setting, with strength in supervising staff, fostering professional growth, and cultivating a culture of accountability, collaboration, and service excellence.
The annual salary range for the City Librarian is $141,813 – $177,105; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
