The California State Controller’s Office seeks a dynamic, visionary, and politically astute executive to serve as Deputy Controller of Public Affairs, a high-impact leadership role at the center of one of the nation’s most influential constitutional offices. Reporting directly to the State Controller and Chief of Staff, this executive will shape and lead a comprehensive communications and public engagement strategy that advances transparency, accountability, equity, and innovation across California state government.

As the trusted advisor to the Controller and senior leadership team on all aspects of public affairs, media strategy, and stakeholder engagement, the Deputy Controller will elevate the visibility and impact of critical statewide initiatives while helping shape the public narrative around programs that affect millions of Californians. This leader will oversee integrated communications, media relations, crisis communications, community engagement, digital strategy, speechwriting, and constituent outreach in a fast-paced, high-profile environment.
