Chief, Local Government Programs and Services Division

The California State Controller’s Office seeks a transformational public finance executive to serve as Chief of the Local Government Programs and Services Division, a highly visible leadership role that influences fiscal accountability and local government operations across the world’s fifth-largest economy. Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer, this executive will oversee critical statewide programs, involving local government accounting, fiscal controls, state-mandated reimbursements, public revenue apportionment, and compliance oversight for counties, cities, special districts, and other publicly funded entities throughout California.

As the trusted advisor to the Chief Operations Officer and State Controller on local government finance, audits, and compliance, the Division Chief will lead strategic initiatives to modernize reporting systems, strengthen state and local partnerships, and advance transparency, accountability, and sound fiscal management statewide. This role sits at the intersection of policy, finance, governance, and public impact, requiring a politically astute and collaborative executive capable of balancing oversight responsibilities with innovation and partnership-building.

The annual salary range is $145,572.00 – $173,436.00.
