Building Official
The City of Los Banos is excited to announce the recruitment of a Building Official to join our Community & Economic Development Department!
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced and knowledgeable building professional to provide leadership, expertise, and strategic direction for the City’s Building Division. The Building Official will plan, organize, manage, and direct daily division operations, including plan review, field inspections, permit issuance, and building code enforcement.
Serving as the City’s designated Building Official, this position will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local building codes, regulations, and standards. The Building Official will also provide highly complex and technical staff assistance to the Community & Economic Development Director, while helping advance safe, efficient, and sustainable development throughout the Los Banos community.
The Building Official should have an associate degree or equivalent education in construction, engineering, architecture, or a related field, along with five years of progressively responsible experience in building inspection, plan review, construction management, code enforcement, or building code administration. At least three years of supervisory or management experience and extensive knowledge of California Title 24 Building Standards are required.
The position requires a valid California Class C Driver License, ICC Building Official certification, and ICC Plans Examiner certification or the ability to obtain it within two years.
Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a related field, additional ICC certifications, Certified Access Specialist (CAS) certification, experience managing municipal building services, and experience with electronic permitting or digital plan review systems.
The position involves a combination of office and field work, including inspections at construction sites and other municipal locations. The incumbent must be able to perform physical activities associated with field inspections, lift up to 25 pounds, and work effectively in a variety of environmental conditions and potentially hazardous construction environments.
The position may also require a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments, as well as the ability to respond to emergency situations and manage the demands and pressures associated with a leadership role.
