The City of Milpitas (pop. 82,000), the Crossroads of Silicon Valley, seeks its next Human Resources Director. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead an eight-person department through an agenda that includes Phase 2 of the City's Tyler Munis ERP implementation for HR and Payroll going live in January 2027, labor negotiations with five bargaining units, and continued build-out of the City's leadership and professional development programs.

Reporting to the City Manager and serving on the Executive Leadership Team, the Director oversees recruitment and selection, classification and compensation, benefits administration, workers compensation, training, and employee and labor relations for a full service city with a $292.3 million budget and 451 funded positions. The City seeks a hands on, working director who builds strong teams and stronger relationships, and who will be a knowledgeable and confident advisor to the City Manager, the executive team, and the City Council.

Requires five years of increasingly responsible experience in public personnel administration, including management or supervisory experience, and a bachelor's degree. An advanced degree and IPMA-SCP, SHRM-SCP, or SPHR are desirable.

Annual salary is $188,702.54 to $264,184.44 DOQE. The City offers a competitive executive benefits package including CalPERS retirement, City paid medical up to the Kaiser rate at every level of coverage with $0 employee cost for Kaiser family coverage in 2026, full family dental and vision at no cost to the employee, 16 to 36 days of vacation based on total years of public service, five hours of Management Incentive Leave per pay period, 12 paid holidays plus one floating holiday, a 401(a) plan with a $900 annual City contribution, up to $3,000 per fiscal year in tuition reimbursement, a $550 monthly car allowance, and retiree medical up to 100 percent of the benefit cap at 20 or more years of service.
