Background
Transit United Kingdom ETA refers to the Electronic Travel Authorisation required for eligible travellers who are passing through the United Kingdom while en route to another destination. It allows short transit stays, either airside (remaining in the airport transit area) or landside (passing through border control), depending on the traveller’s circumstances and nationality requirements. The UK ETA must be approved before travel and is electronically linked to the passport. Even for transit, travellers may need permission if they are changing airports or clearing immigration. It does not guarantee entry, as border officials make the final decision. The ETA is usually valid for multiple journeys during its validity period.
